Subject: Africa cyclist meets ex-Africa cyclist (in Africa)

Hi Folks,
Had the very great pleasure of meeting Souleimman "Souli" Semo while he is
touring Africa. He had started mid of last year in Germany, took the eastern
route around the Mediterranean Sea and continued down through Egypt, Sudan
(that guy loves deserts as much as I do!!!), and continued on the "classic"
route to Dar-El-Salam and further down. After Zimbawbe he turned west to
visit the Okavango Delta (a huge INLAND river delta!) in Botswana.
As most of you know did I get "stuck" here in Maun about two and a half
years ago on my own african travels. Was the most natural thing that I had
to invite him as soon as I found out about his travels on his web site
(www.radflimmern.de)
Well, he arrived and we had a great evening in the local "Powerstation" bar,
he spend three days in the Okavango Delta (doing a Mokoro [dug-out canoe]
trip) and then spend another day talking experiences ,playing pool, meeting
people and having fun. We finished the evening in my place. He writing his
news he posts onto the web site wherever he finds internet access, me
enjoying very much his little "travel book". A small book, showing where
he's from, the route he intended to follow, greetings (including photos)
from friends before he left and then entries from travellers (again some
including photos) he met on the road.
Superb! Wish I had had the idea and carried such a book on my own travels...
Anyway, I had met a few people coming through Maun on a bicycle but most of
the time was it just a short brief meeting. They never seemed to have the
time to maybe stay a day or have a short mini-break or so. Always "rushing"
on. Somewhat sad. My own idea of "travelling by bicycle" is slightly
different. So is Soulis!
To finish: This is a GREAT guy! Not even to talk about his trip! Should
there be anyone on this list from Windhoek/Namibia (where he's heading to
now) or maybe Keetmanshoop or Cape Town/South Africa, you definately would
want to meet this fellow!!

www.bicycletraveller.de/index_e.htmBTW, he actually asked me if I wouldn't be interested to cycle together with
him for a few days to the Namibian border. [zensiert], would I have liked to do
that... All my equipment is still here but it was tiny little things that
somehow didn't let it happen. No tachometer at the moment, no bike shorts
and the low rider is taken off to fix a minor problem with the outlets on
the folk. The biggest problem though was that, knowing myself, if I really
would have taken off with him, I probably would not have come back...
